The Story Behind HIX
Share
Every HIX product has to answer one question before it's allowed to exist: will this help someone feel a little warmer, a little more grounded, a little more at home? That question didn't come from a business plan. It came from a frustration.
A few years ago, I couldn't find beard products that did what they were supposed to do. Most were too heavy, too greasy, or so overpowering that the fragrance took over everything else about using them. So I started making my own, mostly just to solve my own problem.
What I didn't expect was how much I'd enjoy the process itself. Getting a formula wrong, figuring out why, adjusting it, trying again. That became the part I looked forward to, more than having a finished product to show for it.
Soap came next. Then candles. Then all the parts of the craft that don't get talked about much. How a label sits on a jar, what light a candle throws across a room, how a scent should build quietly instead of announcing itself.
The moment that's stayed with me happened at my very first market. People noticed the fragrance before they noticed the table. A few tried the beard oil, and I watched something click for them right there. That was worth more to me than any sale that day.
These days, I don't think of HIX as a maker of candles, soap, or grooming products. I think of it as a handful of small, ordinary moments. A familiar fragrance, warm light at the end of a long day, a few quiet minutes to yourself before you walk out the door. The kind of moments most people never notice are shaping their whole day, until they stop having them.
I'm not building this to become the biggest version of itself. I'd rather it stay something people actually come back to, because of how a candle makes a room feel, or because a small routine has quietly become part of their day.
If HIX still feels this way years from now, warm, grounded, like home. Then I am doing exactly what I set out to do.
Welcome home.
